...after the Dark Queen had been vanquished

...after the Dark Queen had been vanquished, her temple crumbling into pieces, turned into dust by the many hued light that broke through the skies. As her power faded, the light emanated from the heroes, their bodies bathed in its glow. Like waves crashing upon the shore, the light washed over the once powerful city of Neraka, turning many of its unholy sites into crumbling ruins, overgrown by thick bushes of roses, covering what were once proud signs of the might of a terrible evil. And with the sound of tens of thousand of birds rising into the air, a collective, long lasting sight that echoed in every head and heart of all those who were present, the tens of thousands of souls that had been bound and sacrificed to prepare for the Queen’s coming rushed upwards to the bright skies and into the light.

As chaos ensued, the remaining armies were in turmoil, the dragons driven into frenzy, attacking their own kin, scores of warriors fled the field while the Whitestone forces pushed with renewed vigour, breaking through the gates of the cursed city, which now lay in utter disarray, bereft of its leaders. The better disciplined troops offered a tough resistance and there were enough defences left to allow them to take position in Neraka. With many of the dragons engaged against the powerful flying fortresses, there Whitestone army halted its foray into the city once the reached the ruins of the tower, where just moments ago the manifestation of the Dark Queen was repelled by the combined bravery and faith of a selected band of heroes.

The Whitestone Captain, amazed at how many of the heroes had survived the terrible encounter, led a troop of Elite knights on a search for Ariakas, but no sign of him could be found. With the Dragonarmies routed, the Whitestone forces withdrew from the field, not being strong enough to take all of Neraka, let alone follow the fleeing armies, collecting their many wounded and dead. They had risen this morning to fight a hopeless battle and make a last, desperate attempt to halt the Dragonarmies’ advances and now their victory was scarcely believable. But it had cost many a good man’s life and few indeed would be left to tell the tale. Not one in ten that fought here had survived and the good dragons had fared even worse. Among the dead were Lord Gunthar, leader of the knights, surrounded by a hill of enemies, so although he was dead, his body would not fall and he stood upright even in death. The flower of knighthood had been cut down with him, as the knights had defended the withdrawing army against the Flying Fortresses, which had rained death from the sky. Among the dead was Elistan, who had covered one of his young adepts with his body when a powerful spell broke through their defensive circle and slew many of the priests in midst their ritual.
Fallen had Tanis and Gilthanas, back to back, the last arrow spent. Tanis had picked the enemies arrows out of his own body to shoot them back at their attackers when his were spent and he fought to his last with Gilthanas beside him.

And with the Dark Queen leaving, the balance of the Gods was righted again, so the good gods withdrew from the realms of Krynn. And while their clerics remained powerful, the miracles performed that faithful day alone were not seen again in this age. The wounds of Krynn were many, but a newfound energy had entered the lands and a spirit of renewal swept over plains and woods, echoing in the halls under the mountains and heralding a new spring for the races of the Whitestone council. Much would have to be rebuild and re-grown until the lands were healed, but now there was hope. Although pockets of the old dragon army forces remained and new realms were carved out of the former empire, few dared march from their well defended realms, so peace ruled the lands of Krynn.

And it was said, that Astinus himself, who had never since the beginning of time had stopped writing his book, had travelled to Whitestone Glade on Ergoth, were the all the people of the Alliance had gathered to honour the heroes and praise their deeds…
